DECIMOCUARTO DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE PENTECOSTÉS—SOBRE EL TESORO CELESTIAL
La semana pasada, Jesús nos advirtió contra la sobrevaloración de las riquezas terrenales. Esta semana, Jesús nos advierte contra la subestimación de los tesoros celestiales. La semana pasada, Jesús expuso la insensatez de la avaricia. Esta semana, Jesús expone la insensatez de la preocupación, incluso ante la perspectiva de una aparente escasez de recursos. ¡Esta semana podría ser el mayor desafío! Cuando parece que nos falta providencia o protección en nuestra vida diaria, puede ser difícil evitar la preocupación. Por eso, Jesús nos pide que le prestemos toda nuestra atención, para que él nos libre de nuestras preocupaciones. Jesús señala a las criaturas que no trabajan ni se afanan, pero que comen todos los días. Más aún, Jesús señala a nuestro Padre que promete darnos los tesoros celestiales de su reino. Jesús nos asegura que nuestro Padre también nos dará cualquier posesión terrenal que necesitemos. Podemos descansar de nuestras preocupaciones, confiados en que nuestro Padre amoroso sabe todo lo que necesitamos.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS
Hermanos y hermanas, Jesús nos mandó: «Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. Y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.»
Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.
Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:
Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. No te hemos amado de todo corazón; no hemos amado a nuestros prójimos como a nosotros mismos. Por amor de tu Hijo Jesucristo, ten piedad de nosotros. LA ABSOLUCIÓN
Dios todopoderoso, nuestro Padre celestial, en su gran misericordia nos ha dado a su Hijo, y por medio de él nos perdona todos nuestros pecados. A los que creen en Jesucristo, Dios les conceda el poder de ser hijos e hijas suyos, y les concede su Espíritu Santo. Todos los que creen y son bautizados serán salvos. PRIMERA LECTURA Génesis 15:1–6
Con fe, Abram atesoró todas las clementes promesas del SEÑOR.
15 Después de esto, la palabra del SEÑOR vino a Abram en una visión:
«No temas, Abram.
Yo soy tu escudo,
y muy grande será tu recompensa.»
2 Pero Abram le respondió: —SEÑOR y Dios, ¿para qué vas a darme algo, si aún sigo sin tener hijos, y el heredero de mis bienes será Eliezer de Damasco? 3 Como no me has dado ningún hijo, mi herencia la recibirá uno de mis criados.
4 —¡No! Ese hombre no ha de ser tu heredero—le contestó el SEÑOR—. Tu heredero será tu propio hijo. 5 Luego el SEÑOR lo llevó afuera y le dijo: —Mira hacia el cielo y cuenta las estrellas, a ver si puedes. ¡Así de numerosa será tu descendencia!
6 Abram creyó al SEÑOR, y el SEÑOR se lo reconoció como justicia.
Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Hebreos 11:1–3,8–16
El don de la fe nos permite ver el tesoro que se encuentra en la ciudad cuyo arquitecto y constructor es Dios.
11 Ahora bien, la fe es la garantía de lo que se espera, la certeza de lo que no se ve. 2 Gracias a ella fueron aprobados los antiguos.
3 Por la fe entendemos que el universo fue formado por la palabra de Dios, de modo que lo visible no provino de lo que se ve.
8 Por la fe Abraham, cuando fue llamado para ir a un lugar que más tarde recibiría como herencia, obedeció y salió sin saber a dónde iba. 9 Por la fe se radicó como extranjero en la tierra prometida, y habitó en tiendas de campaña con Isaac y Jacob, herederos también de la misma promesa, 10 porque esperaba la ciudad de cimientos sólidos, de la cual Dios es arquitecto y constructor. 11 Por la fe Abraham, a pesar de su avanzada edad y de que Sara misma era estéril, recibió fuerza para tener hijos, porque consideró fiel al que le había hecho la promesa. 12 Así que de este solo hombre, ya en decadencia, nacieron descendientes numerosos como las estrellas del cielo e incontables como la arena a la orilla del mar.
13 Todos ellos vivieron por la fe, y murieron sin haber recibido las cosas prometidas; más bien, las reconocieron a lo lejos, y confesaron que eran extranjeros y peregrinos en la tierra. 14 Al expresarse así, claramente dieron a entender que andaban en busca de una patria. 15 Si hubieran estado pensando en aquella patria de donde habían emigrado, habrían tenido oportunidad de regresar a ella. 16 Antes bien, anhelaban una patria mejor, es decir, la celestial. Por lo tanto, Dios no se avergonzó de ser llamado su Dios, y les preparó una ciudad.
Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

Jesús nos asegura que tenemos un Padre en el cielo que sabe lo que necesitamos mejor que nosotros.
22 Luego dijo Jesús a sus discípulos: —Por eso les digo: No se preocupen por su vida, qué comerán; ni por su cuerpo, con qué se vestirán. 23 La vida tiene más valor que la comida, y el cuerpo más que la ropa. 24 Fíjense en los cuervos: no siembran ni cosechan, ni tienen almacén ni granero; sin embargo, Dios los alimenta. ¡Cuánto más valen ustedes que las aves! 25 ¿Quién de ustedes, por mucho que se preocupe, puede añadir una sola hora al curso de su vida? 26 Ya que no pueden hacer algo tan insignificante, ¿por qué se preocupan por lo demás?
27 »Fíjense cómo crecen los lirios. No trabajan ni hilan; sin embargo, les digo que ni siquiera Salomón, con todo su esplendor, se vestía como uno de ellos. 28 Si así viste Dios a la hierba que hoy está en el campo y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¡cuánto más hará por ustedes, gente de poca fe! 29 Así que no se afanen por lo que han de comer o beber; dejen de atormentarse. 30 El mundo pagano anda tras todas estas cosas, pero el Padre sabe que ustedes las necesitan. 31 Ustedes, por el contrario, busquen el reino de Dios, y estas cosas les serán añadidas.
32 »No tengan miedo, mi rebaño pequeño, porque es la buena voluntad del Padre darles el reino. 33 Vendan sus bienes y den a los pobres. Provéanse de bolsas que no se desgasten; acumulen un tesoro inagotable en el cielo, donde no hay ladrón que aceche ni polilla que destruya. 34 Pues donde tengan ustedes su tesoro, allí estará también su corazón.
Éste es el Evangelio de Dios.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Niceno 325 & 381 d.C.
Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.
Y creo en un solo Señor Jesucristo, Hijo único de Dios, engendrado del Padre antes de todos los siglos, Dios de Dios, luz de luz, Dios verdadero de Dios verdadero, engendrado, y no creado, de la misma naturaleza que el Padre, por quien todo fue hecho; por nosotros y por nuestra salvación, él bajó del cielo, y por obra del Espíritu Santo se encarnó de María la virgen, y se hizo hombre; y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pilato: Padeció y fue sepultado, y resucitó al tercer día, según las escrituras: Y subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre; y de nuevo vendrá con gloria para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos, y su reino no tendrá fin.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Member-only communion—We ask only communicant members of St. Peter and others in fellowship with the WELS to participate in communion today. For more information about this practice, please read more at stpeter.link/communion.

DIVINE SERVICE
FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST—ON HEAVENLY TREASURE
Last week Jesus warned us against overvaluing earthly wealth. This week Jesus warns against undervaluing heavenly treasure. Last week, Jesus exposed the folly of greed. This week, Jesus exposes the folly of worry, even when faced with the prospect of having a seeming shortage of resources. This week might be the bigger challenge! When it seems we lack providence or protection for our daily lives, it can be hard to avoid worry. So, Jesus asks us to give our undivided attention to him, that he might take our worries away. Jesus points to creatures that do not labor or toil yet eat every day. Even more, Jesus points to our Father who promises to give us the heavenly treasures of his kingdom. Jesus assures us that our Father will throw in any needed earthly possessions as well. We can rest from our worries, confident that our loving Father knows all we need.

CONFESSION OF SINS
Brothers and sisters, Jesus commanded us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:
Merciful God, we confess that we are enslaved by sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and direct us through your Holy Spirit so that your will may be our joy and that we may always walk in your ways to the glory of your name. Amen.
ABSOLUTION
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in his great mercy has given us his Son, and through him forgives us our sins. God grants to those who believe in Jesus Christ the power to be his sons and daughters and the gift of his Holy Spirit. Everyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. Grant this to all of us, Lord.

The gift of faith allows us to see the treasure that is found in the city whose architect and builder is God.
1Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for.
3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.
