SERVICIO DIVINO
PRIMER DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE LA EPIFANÍA—JESÚS ES EL CRISTO, EL UNGIDO
“Cristo” no es el apellido de Jesús. Es un título. La palabra griega “Cristo” y la palabra hebrea “Mesías” significan lo mismo: “El Ungido”. La unción era la práctica de derramar líquido sobre la cabeza de alguien para simbolizar su elección para una tarea especial. Cuando el Señor ungía a alguien, también derramaba su Espíritu sobre esa persona. Fue el cumplimiento de promesas hechas a lo largo de los siglos.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.
Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:
Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. LA ABSOLUCIÓN

PRIMERA LECTURA Isaías 42:1–7
El Señor promete poner su Espíritu sobre el Mesías.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Hechos 10:34–38
El Espíritu Santo se derramó sobre los oyentes de Pedro mientras él les contaba cómo Dios había ungido a Jesús.
34 Pedro tomó la palabra, y dijo: —Ahora comprendo que en realidad para Dios no hay favoritismos, 35 sino que en toda nación él ve con agrado a los que le temen y actúan con justicia. 36 Dios envió su mensaje al pueblo de Israel, anunciando las buenas nuevas de la paz por medio de Jesucristo, que es el Señor de todos. 37 Ustedes conocen este mensaje que se difundió por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que predicó Juan. 38 Me refiero a Jesús de Nazaret: cómo lo ungió Dios con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, y cómo anduvo haciendo el bien y sanando a todos los que estaban oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él.
Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

EVANGELIO Mateo 3:13–17
El Espíritu Santo se derramó sobre los oyentes de Pedro mientras él les contaba cómo Dios había ungido a Jesús.
13 Un día Jesús fue de Galilea al Jordán para que Juan lo bautizara. 14 Pero Juan trató de disuadirlo. —Yo soy el que necesita ser bautizado por ti, ¿y tú vienes a mí?—objetó.
15 —Hagámoslo como te digo, pues nos conviene cumplir con lo que es justo—le contestó Jesús. Entonces Juan consintió.
16 Tan pronto como Jesús fue bautizado, subió del agua. En ese momento se abrió el cielo, y él vio al Espíritu de Dios bajar como una paloma y posarse sobre él. 17 Y una voz del cielo decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido con él.»
Éste es el Evangelio de Dios.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Member-only communion—We ask only communicant members of St. Peter and others in fellowship with the WELS to participate in communion today. For more information about this practice, please read more at stpeter.link/communion.

DIVINE SERVICE
FIRST SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY—JESUS IS THE CHRIST, THE ANOINTED ONE
“Christ” is not the family name of Jesus. It is a title. The Greek word “Christ” and the Hebrew word “Messiah” both mean the same thing: “The Anointed One.” Anointing was the practice of pouring liquid over the head of someone to signify selection for some special task. When the Lord had someone anointed, he also poured his Spirit over them. It was the fulfillment of promises made over centuries.

CONFESSION OF SINS
Brothers and sisters, Jesus commanded us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:
Merciful God, we confess that we are enslaved by sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.
