DÉCIMO OCTAVO DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE PENTECOSTÉS—EL VERDADERO ARREPENTIMIENTO SE VE DIFERENTE
Cabe esperar que alguien muestre pesar al ser sorprendido haciendo algo indebido; incluso es posible ver lágrimas y escuchar palabras de disculpa. Sin embargo, no debería sorprendernos que, al disiparse la conmoción del momento, también se desvanezca la intensidad del arrepentimiento. El verdadero arrepentimiento es distinto. Dios no quiere que nos limitemos a cumplir con formalidades religiosas como si fuera una especie de espectáculo. Su deseo es que nuestro arrepentimiento refleje un pesar sincero por el pecado. Aunque parezca inesperado, Dios quiere que reconozcamos la gracia y el perdón que nos ha mostrado en Cristo y que, en respuesta, le amemos profunda y sinceramente.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.
Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:
Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. Sepan que todas las vidas me pertenecen, tanto la del padre como la del hijo.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Filipenses 2:1–11
Movidos por el amor de Cristo y fortalecidos por el Espíritu, buscamos imitar la humildad de Jesús.
2 Por tanto, si sienten algún estímulo en su unión con Cristo, algún consuelo en su amor, algún compañerismo en el Espíritu, algún afecto entrañable, 2 llénenme de alegría teniendo un mismo parecer, un mismo amor, unidos en alma y pensamiento. 3 No hagan nada por egoísmo o vanidad; más bien, con humildad consideren a los demás como superiores a ustedes mismos. 4 Cada uno debe velar no sólo por sus propios intereses sino también por los intereses de los demás.

El amor sincero a Dios implica no solo decir lo que Dios quiere oír, sino hacer lo que Dios quiere que se haga.
23 Jesús entró en el templo y, mientras enseñaba, se le acercaron los jefes de los sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo. —¿Con qué autoridad haces esto?—lo interrogaron—. ¿Quién te dio esa autoridad?
24 —Yo también voy a hacerles una pregunta. Si me la contestan, les diré con qué autoridad hago esto. 25 El bautismo de Juan, ¿de dónde procedía? ¿Del cielo o de la tierra?
Ellos se pusieron a discutir entre sí: «Si respondemos: “Del cielo”, nos dirá: “Entonces, ¿por qué no le creyeron?” 26 Pero si decimos: “De la tierra” … tememos al pueblo, porque todos consideran que Juan era un profeta.»
Así que le respondieron a Jesús: 27 —No lo sabemos.
—Pues yo tampoco les voy a decir con qué autoridad hago esto.
28 »¿Qué les parece?—continuó Jesús—. Había un hombre que tenía dos hijos. Se dirigió al primero y le pidió: “Hijo, ve a trabajar hoy en el viñedo.”
29 “No quiero”, contestó, pero después se arrepintió y fue.
30 Luego el padre se dirigió al otro hijo y le pidió lo mismo. Éste contestó: “Sí, señor”; pero no fue.
31 ¿Cuál de los dos hizo lo que su padre quería?
—El primero—contestaron ellos.
Jesús les dijo: —Les aseguro que los recaudadores de impuestos y las prostitutas van delante de ustedes hacia el reino de Dios. 32 Porque Juan fue enviado a ustedes a señalarles el camino de la justicia, y no le creyeron, pero los recaudadores de impuestos y las prostitutas sí le creyeron. E incluso después de ver esto, ustedes no se arrepintieron para creerle.
Éste es el Evangelio de Dios.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Niceno 325 & 381 d.C.
Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Member-only communion—We ask only communicant members of St. Peter and others in fellowship with the WELS to participate in communion today. For more information about this practice, please read more at stpeter.link/communion.

DIVINE SERVICE
EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST—REAL REPENTANCE LOOKS DIFFERENT
It might be expected for someone to look sorry when they are caught doing something wrong. You might even see tears and hear words of apology. But you might not be surprised if the shock of being caught wears off and so does the intensity of the repentance. Real repentance looks different. God doesn’t want us to simply go through religious motions like some sort of show. God’s desire is that our repentance would demonstrate sincere sorrow over sin. It might be unexpected, but God wants us to see the grace and forgiveness he has shown us in Christ, and in response, to love him back deeply and sincerely.

CONFESSION OF SINS

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in his great mercy has given us his Son, and through him forgives us our sins. CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human.
