PENTECOSTÉS 11—LOS CRISTIANOS RESPONDEN A LA DUDA CON FE
Dondequiera que la fe se aferra a las promesas de Dios, la duda siempre está al acecho. La duda hace la misma pregunta de la serpiente en el jardín: «¿De veras Dios les dijo…?» Las personas dudan del cuidado de Dios, de sus promesas o de su providencia.
La respuesta a la duda no se encuentra en demostraciones ruidosas y espectaculares. La verdadera respuesta a la duda se encuentra en la voz suave y apacible de nuestro Dios Salvador, que nos habla por medio de su Palabra. Por medio de la Palabra y los sacramentos, Cristo extiende hacia nosotros sus manos marcadas por los clavos, prueba de su gran amor. Jesús nos pregunta con ternura: «¿Por qué dudaste?» Nuestra fe es restaurada. Los cristianos responden a la duda con fe.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.
Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:
Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. No te hemos amado de todo corazón; no hemos amado a nuestros prójimos como a nosotros mismos. Por amor de tu Hijo Jesucristo, ten piedad de nosotros. PRIMERA LECTURA 1 Reyes 19:9–18
El Señor responde a la duda de Elías con el suave susurro de una promesa llena de gracia.
9 Allí pasó la noche en una cueva. Más tarde, la palabra del SEÑOR vino a él. —¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?—le preguntó.
10 —Me consume mi amor por ti, SEÑOR Dios Todopoderoso—respondió él—. Los israelitas han rechazado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y a tus profetas los han matado a filo de espada. Yo soy el único que ha quedado con vida, ¡y ahora quieren matarme a mí también! 11 El SEÑOR le ordenó: —Sal y preséntate ante mí en la montaña, porque estoy a punto de pasar por allí.
Como heraldo del SEÑOR vino un viento recio, tan violento que partió las montañas e hizo añicos las rocas; pero el SEÑOR no estaba en el viento. Después del viento hubo un terremoto, pero el SEÑOR tampoco estaba en el terremoto. 12 Tras el terremoto vino un fuego, pero el SEÑOR tampoco estaba en el fuego. Y después del fuego vino un suave murmullo. 13 Cuando Elías lo oyó, se cubrió el rostro con el manto y, saliendo, se puso a la entrada de la cueva. Entonces oyó una voz que le dijo: —¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?
14 Él respondió: —Me consume mi amor por ti, SEÑOR, Dios Todopoderoso. Los israelitas han rechazado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y a tus profetas los han matado a filo de espada. Yo soy el único que ha quedado con vida, ¡y ahora quieren matarme a mí también!
15 El SEÑOR le dijo: —Regresa por el mismo camino y ve al desierto de Damasco. SEGUNDA LECTURA Romanos 8:28–39
En todo momento, sea bueno o malo, Dios lleva a cabo su plan perfecto para su gloria y nuestra salvación.
28 Ahora bien, sabemos que Dios dispone todas las cosas para el bien de quienes lo aman, los que han sido llamados de acuerdo con su propósito. 29 Porque a los que Dios conoció de antemano, también los predestinó a ser transformados según la imagen de su Hijo, para que él sea el primogénito entre muchos hermanos. 30 A los que predestinó, también los llamó; a los que llamó, también los justificó; y a los que justificó, también los glorificó.
31 ¿Qué diremos frente a esto? Si Dios está de nuestra parte, ¿quién puede estar en contra nuestra? 32 El que no escatimó ni a su propio Hijo, sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿cómo no habrá de darnos generosamente, junto con él, todas las cosas? 33 ¿Quién acusará a los que Dios ha escogido? Dios es el que justifica. 34 ¿Quién condenará? Cristo Jesús es el que murió, e incluso resucitó, y está a la derecha de Dios e intercede por nosotros. 35 ¿Quién nos apartará del amor de Cristo? ¿La tribulación, o la angustia, la persecución, el hambre, la indigencia, el peligro, o la violencia? 36 Así está escrito:
«Por tu causa siempre nos llevan a la muerte;
¡nos tratan como a ovejas para el matadero!»
37 Sin embargo, en todo esto somos más que vencedores por medio de aquel que nos amó. 38 Pues estoy convencido de que ni la muerte ni la vida, ni los ángeles ni los demonios, ni lo presente ni lo por venir, ni los poderes, 39 ni lo alto ni lo profundo, ni cosa alguna en toda la creación, podrá apartarnos del amor que Dios nos ha manifestado en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.

En el relato de Pedro caminando sobre el agua, vemos cuán rápidamente surgen las dudas y con cuánta gracia Jesús responde a ellas.
22 En seguida Jesús hizo que los discípulos subieran a la barca y se le adelantaran al otro lado mientras él despedía a la multitud. 23 Después de despedir a la gente, subió a la montaña para orar a solas. Al anochecer, estaba allí él solo, 24 y la barca ya estaba bastante lejos de la tierra, zarandeada por las olas, porque el viento le era contrario.
25 En la madrugada, Jesús se acercó a ellos caminando sobre el lago. 26 Cuando los discípulos lo vieron caminando sobre el agua, quedaron aterrados. —¡Es un fantasma!—gritaron de miedo.
27 Pero Jesús les dijo en seguida: —¡Cálmense! Soy yo. No tengan miedo.
28 —Señor, si eres tú—respondió Pedro—, mándame que vaya a ti sobre el agua.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Niceno 325 & 381 d.C.
Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Member-only communion—We ask only communicant members of St. Peter and others in fellowship with the WELS to participate in communion today. For more information about this practice, please read more at stpeter.link/communion.

DIVINE SERVICE
PENTECOST 11—CHRISTIANS ANSWER DOUBT WITH FAITH
Wherever faith clings to the promises of God, doubt is always lingering. Doubt asks the serpent’s garden question, “Did God really say?” People doubt God’s care, God’s promises, or God’s providence.
The answer to doubt is not found in loud, dramatic demonstrations. The true answer to doubt is found in the still small voice of our Savior God whispering to us in his Word. Through Word and sacrament, Christ reaches out to us with nail-scarred hands, proof of his great love. Jesus gently says, “Why did you doubt?” Our faith is restored. Christians answer doubt with faith.

CONFESSION OF SINS
Brothers and sisters, Jesus commanded us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:
Merciful God, we confess that we are enslaved by sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. ABSOLUTION
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in his great mercy has given us his Son, and through him forgives us our sins. God grants to those who believe in Jesus Christ the power to be his sons and daughters and the gift of his Holy Spirit. Everyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. Grant this to all of us, Lord.

The Lord answers Elijah’s doubt with the gentle whisper of a gracious promise.
9There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
10He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” 11The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. In the account of Peter walking on water, we see how quickly doubts arise, and how graciously Jesus answers them.
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.
27But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

New Member Welcome—If you are interested in becoming a new member at St. Peter, we are planning to have our next new member welcome on Sunday, September 6th during both services. Schedule the new member classes at stpeter.link/meet or talk to Pastor Dunn.
Summer Schedule continues—This week we continue our summer break from Sunday school. You can pick up the Diving Deeper study to take with you or stay after the service to go through it as a small group.
St. Peter Summer Meetups—Our next meet-up will be at South Shore park on Wednesday, Aug 12 from 6-8 pm. We will have meet ups every other week at various Milwaukee Parks and Beer gardens.
Christ-St. Peter School News—Registration for k3 through 8th grade is open for the 2026-2027 school year. Enroll online at stpeter.link/csp.
—Help us get the word out about our school and canvass our neighborhoods—Aug 11, 9-11 am at West Campus.
—This year we will have 2 female student teachers at CSP from the weekend of October 10th through December 18th. One will be serving at East and the other at Centennial. If you would like to provide housing for them, please contact Kelly Wardell or Katie Bravo.
