PENTECOST 10—CHRISTIANS TRUST GOD TO PROVIDE
The hardest times to trust God are the times we need him most. It’s easier to trust God when your job is going great, your health is fine, your relationships are fine, and your family is good. It’s easier to trust God when the sun is shining, but what happens when your life is suddenly overshadowed by dark days?
When tragedy strikes, we may wonder if God continues to care for us. At those times, Christians do not despair like those who have no hope. Instead, Christians focus on certain foundational facts. We are chosen and adopted as God’s dear children. God provides us innumerable spiritual blessings and promises us an eternity of peace and joy. If we recognize those spiritual blessings, how can we doubt that God will give us everything we truly need at the right time? Christians trust God to provide.

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. Los momentos más difíciles para confiar en Dios son precisamente aquellos en que más lo necesitamos. Es más fácil confiar en Dios cuando el trabajo va bien, la salud es buena, las relaciones marchan bien y la familia está unida. Es más fácil confiar en Dios cuando brilla el sol. Pero ¿qué sucede cuando tu vida queda de repente cubierta por días oscuros?
Cuando llega la tragedia, podemos preguntarnos si Dios sigue cuidando de nosotros. En esos momentos, los cristianos no desesperan como quienes no tienen esperanza. Más bien, fijan su atención en ciertas verdades fundamentales. Hemos sido escogidos y adoptados como los amados hijos de Dios. Él nos ha concedido innumerables bendiciones espirituales y nos promete una eternidad de paz y gozo. Si reconocemos esas bendiciones espirituales, ¿cómo podríamos dudar de que Dios nos dará todo lo que verdaderamente necesitamos en el momento oportuno? Los cristianos confían en que Dios proveerá.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Efesios 1:3–10
