FOURTH SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY—JESUS CALLS YOU BLESSED

You may not feel blessed when you are hungry or insulted or mourning the death of a loved one. You may not be in the mood to boast when you feel foolish, weak, or lowly. But knowing your difficulties, Jesus still chose you to be his own. He gives you many gifts, and he calls you blessed.

CONFESSION OF SINS

We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve him as his dear children. But we have disobeyed him and deserve only his wrath and punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to him and plead for his mercy.

Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless ways I have sinned against you and do not deserve to be called your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.

God, our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent death of our Lord Jesus Christ, he has removed your guilt forever. You are his own dear child. May God give you strength to live according to his will.

CONFESSION OF FAITH Apostles' Creed ~150 AD

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Dios cambia la forma en que nos vemos a nosotros mismos al conectarnos con Jesucristo.

En las Bienaventuranzas, nuestro Salvador da un vuelco a las ideas del mundo.

5 Cuando Jesús vio a la multitud, subió al monte y se sentó. Entonces sus discípulos se le acercaron, 2 y él comenzó a enseñarles diciendo:

3 «Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu,
porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.
4 »Bienaventurados los que lloran,
porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 »Bienaventurados los mansos,
porque ellos heredarán la tierra.
6 »Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia,
porque ellos serán saciados.
7 »Bienaventurados los misericordiosos,
porque ellos serán tratados con misericordia.
8 »Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón,
porque ellos verán a Dios.
9 »Bienaventurados los pacificadores,
porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10 »Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia,
porque de ellos es el reino de los cielos.

11 »Bienaventurados serán ustedes cuando por mi causa los insulten y persigan, y mientan y digan contra ustedes toda clase de mal. 12 Gócense y alégrense, porque en los cielos ya tienen ustedes un gran galardón; pues así persiguieron a los profetas que vivieron antes que ustedes.

Éste es el Evangelio de Dios.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Apostólico ~150 d.C.

Creo en Dios Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra.

Y creo en Jesucristo, su único Hijo, nuestro Señor; que fue concebido por obra del Espíritu Santo, nació de la virgen María, padeció bajo el poder de Poncio Pilato, fue crucificado, murió, y fue sepultado; descendió al infierno; al tercer día resucitó de entre los muertos, subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha, de Dios Padre Todopoderoso; y de allí vendrá de nuevo a juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos.

Creo en el Espíritu Santo, la santa iglesia cristiana, la comunión de los santos, el perdón de los pecados, la resurrección del cuerpo, y la vida eterna. Amén.
