SERVICIO DIVINO

DECIMOCUARTO DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE PENTECOSTÉS—LOS PERDIDOS SON ECONTRADOS

"Está perdido". Usamos ese término no solo para referirnos a alguien que está desconcertado por dónde está, sino también para referirnos a alguien que se encuentra en un estado de impotencia y desesperanza. El estado natural de la humanidad es de completa impotencia espiritual, una profunda pérdida. Se manifiesta de innumerables maneras. Quien simplemente quiere que Dios lo deje en paz: perdido. Quien siente que puede manejar la vida por sí misma: perdido. Quien cree que tiene derecho a arrepentirse de sus pecados a su propio ritmo y en sus propios términos: perdido. Quien cree que Dios le debe algo: perdido. Deambular físicamente perdido puede llevar a terminar en malos lugares. Las palabras hirientes de Jesús esta semana enseñan que deambular espiritualmente perdido te pone en el peor lugar de todos. Afortunadamente, Jesús no nos deja en nuestra perdición. Nos busca incansablemente. Involucra al resto de la comunidad cristiana en la búsqueda de los perdidos y en el regocijo por los encontrados.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Hermanos y hermanas, Jesús nos mandó: «Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. Y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.»

Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.

Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:

Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. No te hemos amado de todo corazón; no hemos amado a nuestros prójimos como a nosotros mismos. Por amor de tu Hijo Jesucristo, ten piedad de nosotros. PRIMERA LECTURA Oseas 3:1-5

El Señor llamó al profeta Oseas a buscar a su esposa adúltera y a amarla de nuevo. Esto sirvió como lección práctica, mostrando que nuestro Dios es un Dios que busca y redime a los perdidos.

3 Me habló una vez más el SEÑOR, y me dijo: «Ve y ama a esa mujer adúltera, que es amante de otro. Ámala como ama el SEÑOR a los israelitas, aunque se hayan vuelto a dioses ajenos y se deleiten con las tortas de pasas que les ofrecen.»

2 Compré entonces a esa mujer por quince monedas de plata y una carga y media de cebada, 3 y le dije: «Vas a vivir conmigo mucho tiempo, pero sin prostituirte. No tendrás relaciones sexuales con ningún otro hombre. ¡Ni yo te voy a tocar!»

4 Ciertamente los israelitas vivirán mucho tiempo sin rey ni gobernante, sin sacrificio ni altares, ni efod ni ídolos. 5 Pero después los israelitas buscarán nuevamente al SEÑOR su Dios, y a David su rey. En los últimos días acudirán con temor reverente al Señor y a sus bondades.

Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.
Te alabamos, Señor.

SEGUNDA LECTURA 2 Corintios 2:5–11

Un miembro de la iglesia en Corinto se había perdido en el pecado, pero a través de la amorosa disciplina de la iglesia, fue impulsado a arrepentirse. Pablo anima a los miembros a darle la bienvenida gozosamente.

5 Si alguno ha causado tristeza, no me la ha causado sólo a mí; hasta cierto punto—y lo digo para no exagerar—se la ha causado a todos ustedes. 6 Para él es suficiente el castigo que le impuso la mayoría. 7 Más bien debieran perdonarlo y consolarlo para que no sea consumido por la excesiva tristeza. 8 Por eso les ruego que reafirmen su amor hacia él. 9 Con este propósito les escribí: para ver si pasan la prueba de la completa obediencia. 10 A quien ustedes perdonen, yo también lo perdono. De hecho, si había algo que perdonar, lo he perdonado por consideración a ustedes en presencia de Cristo, 11 para que Satanás no se aproveche de nosotros, pues no ignoramos sus artimañas.

Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

EVANGELIO Lucas 15:1–10

A través de dos parábolas, Jesús reprende a quienes se consideran ya encontrados y no necesitados de arrepentimiento.

15 Muchos recaudadores de impuestos y pecadores se acercaban a Jesús para oírlo, 2 de modo que los fariseos y los maestros de la ley se pusieron a murmurar: «Este hombre recibe a los pecadores y come con ellos.»

3 Él entonces les contó esta parábola: 4 «Supongamos que uno de ustedes tiene cien ovejas y pierde una de ellas. ¿No deja las noventa y nueve en el campo, y va en busca de la oveja perdida hasta encontrarla? 5 Y cuando la encuentra, lleno de alegría la carga en los hombros 6 y vuelve a la casa. Al llegar, reúne a sus amigos y vecinos, y les dice: “Alégrense conmigo; ya encontré la oveja que se me había perdido.” 7 Les digo que así es también en el cielo: habrá más alegría por un solo pecador que se arrepienta, que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan arrepentirse.

8 »O supongamos que una mujer tiene diez monedas de plata y pierde una. ¿No enciende una lámpara, barre la casa y busca con cuidado hasta encontrarla? 9 Y cuando la encuentra, reúne a sus amigas y vecinas, y les dice: “Alégrense conmigo; ya encontré la moneda que se me había perdido.” 10 Les digo que así mismo se alegra Dios con sus ángeles por un pecador que se arrepiente.

Éste es el Evangelio de Dios.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Niceno 325 & 381 d.C.

Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.

Y creo en un solo Señor Jesucristo, Hijo único de Dios, engendrado del Padre antes de todos los siglos, Dios de Dios, luz de luz, Dios verdadero de Dios verdadero, engendrado, y no creado, de la misma naturaleza que el Padre, por quien todo fue hecho; por nosotros y por nuestra salvación, él bajó del cielo, y por obra del Espíritu Santo se encarnó de María la virgen, y se hizo hombre; y por nuestra causa fue crucificado en tiempos de Poncio Pilato: Padeció y fue sepultado, y resucitó al tercer día, según las escrituras: Y subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre; y de nuevo vendrá con gloria para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos, y su reino no tendrá fin.

En amor, Señor, buscas a los perdidos, siempre con la esperanza de restaurarlos. Úsanos como tu voz, tus manos, tus pies para buscar y rescatar a quienes son débiles o tropiezan en su fe.

En nuestro mundo pecaminoso y quebrantado, la gente se enfurece e intenta cambiar el mundo mediante el terror y la destrucción. Detén o obstaculiza a quienes planean el mal. Restringe toda violencia y cualquier cosa que pueda dañarnos. Corrige a los descarriados. Sana a los heridos.

Crea en nosotros, oh Dios, un corazón puro, y renueva un espíritu recto dentro de nosotros.

Por tu gran amor no nos consumimos, pues tu compasión nunca falla. Grande es tu fidelidad. Conforme a tu buen plan, concede a quienes sufren sanación y alivio de su dolor [especialmente…]. Fortalécelos contra la tentación y acércalos a ti.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP

We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.

WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES

Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.

Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.

Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.

DIVINE SERVICE

FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST—THE LOST ARE FOUND

“He’s lost.” We use that term not only to refer to someone who is bewildered about where they are but also to refer to someone who is in a helpless, hopeless state. Mankind’s natural state is one of complete spiritual helplessness, a profound lostness. It manifests itself in countless ways. The one who simply wants God to leave him alone: lost. The one who feels she can handle life on her own: lost. The one who thinks he has the right to repent of his sins on his own timetable and terms: lost. The one who thinks God owes her in some way: lost. Wandering around physically lost can lead to winding up in bad places. Jesus’ wounding words this week teach that wandering around spiritually lost puts you in the worst place of all. Fortunately, Jesus does not leave us in our lostness. He relentlessly seeks us. He involves the rest of the Christian community in seeking the lost and rejoicing over the found.

CONFESSION OF SINS

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:

FIRST READING Hosea 3:1-5

The LORD called the prophet Hosea to seek his adulterous wife and love her again. This served as an object lesson, showing our God is a God who seeks and redeems those who are lost.

1The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another man and is an adulteress. Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”

2So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley. 3Then I told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.”

A member of the church in Corinth had been lost in sin, but through loving church discipline, had been moved to repent. Paul encourages the members to joyfully welcome him back.

5If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you to some extent—not to put it too severely. 6The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. 7Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. 8I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. 9Another reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. 10Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

Through two parables, Jesus rebukes those who consider themselves already found and not in need of repentance.

1Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

3Then Jesus told them this parable: 4“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

8“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures.
