SERVICIO DIVINO
SÉPTIMO DOMINGO DE PASCUA—ÉL VIVE PARA DARME UNA EXPECTATIVA ANHELANTE DE GLORIA
Sin la resurrección de Jesús, mi incertidumbre puede derivar fácilmente en ansiedad. Espero a que todo se resuelva, y no saber qué sucederá resulta mucho más difícil si pienso que no puedo confiar en nadie. Ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que Jesús ascendió al cielo. A veces sufro. ¿Se habrá olvidado de mí?
Él vive, y eso marca la diferencia. Sé cómo terminará mi vida, y esa certeza sobre el futuro me ayuda a afrontar las dificultades presentes de la vida. Mientras espero en el tiempo que transcurre entre la ascensión de Cristo y su regreso en el día del juicio, sé que Dios hará que todo obre para mi bien.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS
Hermanos y hermanas, Jesús nos mandó: «Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. Y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.»
Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.
Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:
Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. PRIMERA LECTURA Hechos 1:12–26
Matías es elegido para unirse a los apóstoles, cuyo testimonio sobre la resurrección de Cristo otorga a la Iglesia la expectativa de la gloria futura.
12 Entonces regresaron a Jerusalén desde el monte llamado de los Olivos, situado aproximadamente a un kilómetro de la ciudad. 13 Cuando llegaron, subieron al lugar donde se alojaban. Estaban allí Pedro, Juan, Jacobo, Andrés, Felipe, Tomás, Bartolomé, Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, Simón el Zelote y Judas hijo de Jacobo. 14 Todos, en un mismo espíritu, se dedicaban a la oración, junto con las mujeres y con los hermanos de Jesús y su madre María.
15 Por aquellos días Pedro se puso de pie en medio de los creyentes, que eran un grupo como de ciento veinte personas, 16 y les dijo: «Hermanos, tenía que cumplirse la Escritura que, por boca de David, había predicho el Espíritu Santo en cuanto a Judas, el que sirvió de guía a los que arrestaron a Jesús. 17 Judas se contaba entre los nuestros y participaba en nuestro ministerio. 18 (Con el dinero que obtuvo por su crimen, Judas compró un terreno; allí cayó de cabeza, se reventó, y se le salieron las vísceras. 19 Todos en Jerusalén se enteraron de ello, así que aquel terreno fue llamado Acéldama, que en su propio idioma quiere decir “Campo de Sangre”.)
20 »Porque en el libro de los Salmos—continuó Pedro—está escrito:
»“Que su lugar quede desierto,
y que nadie lo habite.”
También está escrito:
»“Que otro se haga cargo de su oficio.”
21–22 Por tanto, es preciso que se una a nosotros un testigo de la resurrección, uno de los que nos acompañaban todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús vivió entre nosotros, desde que Juan bautizaba hasta el día en que Jesús fue llevado de entre nosotros.»
23 Así que propusieron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás, apodado el Justo, y a Matías. 24 Y oraron así: «Señor, tú que conoces el corazón de todos, muéstranos a cuál de estos dos has elegido 25 para que se haga cargo del servicio apostólico que Judas dejó para irse al lugar que le correspondía.» 26 Luego echaron suertes y la elección recayó en Matías; así que él fue reconocido junto con los once apóstoles.

El Dios de toda gracia nos ha llamado a la gloria futura. Hasta ese momento, nos anima a llevarle toda nuestra ansiedad.
12 Queridos hermanos, no se extrañen del fuego de la prueba que están soportando, como si fuera algo insólito. 13 Al contrario, alégrense de tener parte en los sufrimientos de Cristo, para que también sea inmensa su alegría cuando se revele la gloria de Cristo. 14 Dichosos ustedes si los insultan por causa del nombre de Cristo, porque el glorioso Espíritu de Dios reposa sobre ustedes. 15 Que ninguno tenga que sufrir por asesino, ladrón o delincuente, ni siquiera por entrometido. 16 Pero si alguien sufre por ser cristiano, que no se avergüence, sino que alabe a Dios por llevar el nombre de Cristo. 17 Porque es tiempo de que el juicio comience por la familia de Dios; y si comienza por nosotros, ¡cuál no será el fin de los que se rebelan contra el evangelio de Dios!
6 Humíllense, pues, bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que él los exalte a su debido tiempo. 7 Depositen en él toda ansiedad, porque él cuida de ustedes.
8 Practiquen el dominio propio y manténganse alerta. Su enemigo el diablo ronda como león rugiente, buscando a quién devorar. 9 Resístanlo, manteniéndose firmes en la fe, sabiendo que sus hermanos en todo el mundo están soportando la misma clase de sufrimientos.
10 Y después de que ustedes hayan sufrido un poco de tiempo, Dios mismo, el Dios de toda gracia que los llamó a su gloria eterna en Cristo, los restaurará y los hará fuertes, firmes y estables. 11 A él sea el poder por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

CONFESIÓN DE LA FE El Credo Niceno 325 & 381 d.C.
Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.

DIVINE SERVICE
SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER—HE LIVES TO GIVE ME EAGER EXPECTATION OF GLORY
Without the resurrection of Jesus, my uncertainty can easily lead to anxiety. I am waiting for everything to turn out, and not knowing what will happen is much harder if I think I cannot rely on anyone. It’s been a long time since Jesus ascended into heaven. Sometimes I suffer. Has he forgotten about me?
He lives, and it makes a difference. I know how my life will turn out, and that certainty about the future helps with life’s present difficulties. While I wait in the time between Christ’s ascension and his return on judgment day, I know that God will work everything out for my good.

CONFESSION OF SINS

Matthias is chosen to join the apostles whose testimony about Christ’s resurrection gives the Church the expectation of future glory.
12Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk from the city. 13When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
15In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16and said, “Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.” 18(With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father.
