PRIMER DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE PENTECOSTÉS—DILO EN VOZ ALTA: DIOS ES TRINO

Creemos en el Dios trino. Él es el único Dios verdadero. La fiesta de la Santa Trinidad es un tiempo para celebrar que Dios se nos revela como un solo Dios en tres personas. El Dios trino desea que su pueblo enseñe este misterio en su verdad y pureza bíblicas. Esta fiesta de la Santa Trinidad da inicio a la segunda mitad del Año Eclesiástico con la proclamación de que las personas son bautizadas y bendecidas en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo: el único Dios verdadero.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Hermanos y hermanas, Jesús nos mandó: «Ama al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma, con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas. Y ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.»

Si decimos que no tenemos pecado, nos estamos engañando, y la verdad no está en nosotros. Si confesamos nuestros pecados, Dios es fiel y justo para perdonarnos y purificarnos de toda maldad.

Confesemos nuestros pecados contra Dios y contra nuestros prójimos:

Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. Hemos pecado contra ti en pensamiento, palabra y obra, por lo que hemos hecho y por lo que hemos dejado de hacer. No te hemos amado de todo corazón; no hemos amado a nuestros prójimos como a nosotros mismos. Por amor de tu Hijo Jesucristo, ten piedad de nosotros. PRIMERA LECTURA Génesis 1:1–2:3

El Dios trino demuestra su poder en la creación.

1 Dios, en el principio, creó los cielos y la tierra. 2 La tierra era un caos total, las tinieblas cubrían el abismo, y el Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre la superficie de las aguas.

3 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que exista la luz!» Y la luz llegó a existir. 4 Dios consideró que la luz era buena y la separó de las tinieblas. 5 A la luz la llamó «día», y a las tinieblas, «noche». Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el primer día.

6 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que exista el firmamento en medio de las aguas, y que las separe!» 7 Y así sucedió: Dios hizo el firmamento y separó las aguas que están abajo, de las aguas que están arriba. 8 Al firmamento Dios lo llamó «cielo». Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el segundo día.

9 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que las aguas debajo del cielo se reúnan en un solo lugar, y que aparezca lo seco!» Y así sucedió. 10 A lo seco Dios lo llamó «tierra», y al conjunto de aguas lo llamó «mar». Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno.

11 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que haya vegetación sobre la tierra; que ésta produzca hierbas que den semilla, y árboles que den su fruto con semilla, todos según su especie!» Y así sucedió. 12 Comenzó a brotar la vegetación: hierbas que dan semilla, y árboles que dan su fruto con semilla, todos según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno. 13 Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el tercer día.

14 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que haya luces en el firmamento que separen el día de la noche; que sirvan como señales de las estaciones, de los días y de los años, 15 y que brillen en el firmamento para iluminar la tierra!» Y sucedió así. 16 Dios hizo los dos grandes astros: el astro mayor para gobernar el día, y el menor para gobernar la noche. También hizo las estrellas. 17 Dios colocó en el firmamento los astros para alumbrar la tierra. 18 Los hizo para gobernar el día y la noche, y para separar la luz de las tinieblas. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno. 19 Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el cuarto día.

20 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que rebosen de seres vivientes las aguas, y que vuelen las aves sobre la tierra a lo largo del firmamento!» 21 Y creó Dios los grandes animales marinos, y todos los seres vivientes que se mueven y pululan en las aguas y todas las aves, según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno, 22 y los bendijo con estas palabras: «Sean fructíferos y multiplíquense; llenen las aguas de los mares. ¡Que las aves se multipliquen sobre la tierra!» 23 Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el quinto día.

24 Y dijo Dios: «¡Que produzca la tierra seres vivientes: animales domésticos, animales salvajes, y reptiles, según su especie!» Y sucedió así. 25 Dios hizo los animales domésticos, los animales salvajes, y todos los reptiles, según su especie. Y Dios consideró que esto era bueno,

26 y dijo: «Hagamos al ser humano a nuestra imagen y semejanza. Que tenga dominio sobre los peces del mar, y sobre las aves del cielo; sobre los animales domésticos, sobre los animales salvajes, y sobre todos los reptiles que se arrastran por el suelo.»

27 Y Dios creó al ser humano a su imagen;
lo creó a imagen de Dios.
Hombre y mujer los creó,

28 y los bendijo con estas palabras: «Sean fructíferos y multiplíquense; llenen la tierra y sométanla; dominen a los peces del mar y a las aves del cielo, y a todos los reptiles que se arrastran por el suelo.»

29 También les dijo: «Yo les doy de la tierra todas las plantas que producen semilla y todos los árboles que dan fruto con semilla; todo esto les servirá de alimento. 30 Y doy la hierba verde como alimento a todas las fieras de la tierra, a todas las aves del cielo y a todos los seres vivientes que se arrastran por la tierra.» Y así sucedió.

31 Dios miró todo lo que había hecho, y consideró que era muy bueno. Y vino la noche, y llegó la mañana: ése fue el sexto día.

2:1 Así quedaron terminados los cielos y la tierra, y todo lo que hay en ellos.

2 Al llegar el séptimo día, Dios descansó porque había terminado la obra que había emprendido. 3 Dios bendijo el séptimo día, y lo santificó, porque en ese día descansó de toda su obra creadora.

Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

SEGUNDA LECTURA 2 Corintios 13: 11-14

Al compartir su gracia, su amor y su comunión, el Dios trino nos otorga unidad y paz.

11 En fin, hermanos, alégrense, busquen su restauración, hagan caso de mi exhortación, sean de un mismo sentir, vivan en paz. Y el Dios de amor y de paz estará con ustedes.

12 Salúdense unos a otros con un beso santo. 13 Todos los santos les mandan saludos.

14 Que la gracia del Señor Jesucristo, el amor de Dios y la comunión del Espíritu Santo sean con todos ustedes.

Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

De pie por favor

CONFESIÓN DE FE El Credo Atanasiano

Este credo recibe su nombre de San Atanasio, un firme defensor de la fe cristiana en el siglo IV. Fue escrito más de un siglo después de la muerte de Atanasio para combatir dos errores que socavaban enseñanzas fundamentales de las Escrituras. Uno de esos errores negaba que el Hijo de Dios y el Espíritu Santo fueran de un mismo ser o divinidad con el Padre. El otro error negaba que Jesucristo sea verdadero Dios y verdadero hombre en una sola persona. El Credo Atanasiano continúa sirviendo a la Iglesia Cristiana como una norma de la verdad. Declara que quien rechaza la doctrina de la Trinidad y la doctrina de Cristo no posee la fe salvadora.

El credo también habla brevemente sobre la necesidad de las buenas obras en la vida del cristiano. Las buenas obras que Dios produce en nosotros y por medio de nosotros son la consecuencia natural de la fe escondida en el corazón. La referencia del credo a hacer el bien nos recuerda las palabras de Jesús en Juan 5:28–29 y su declaración acerca de las ovejas y los cabritos en el día del juicio en Mateo 25:31–46. Las buenas obras no contribuyen a nuestra salvación. Sin embargo, las buenas obras demuestran nuestra fe en Cristo y dan testimonio a otros de que somos cristianos.

1 Todo el que quiere ser salvo, antes que todo es necesario que tenga la verdadera fe cristiana.
2 Y si alguno no la guardare íntegra e inviolada, es indudable que perecerá eternamente.
3 Y la verdadera fe cristiana es esta,
4 que veneremos a un solo Dios en la Trinidad, y la Trinidad en la unidad; no confundiendo las personas, ni dividiendo la substancia.
5 Una es la persona del Padre, otra la del Hijo, otra la del Espíritu Santo.
6 Pero una sola es la divinidad del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; igual es la gloria, y coeterna la majestad.
7 Cual el Padre, tal el Hijo, tal el Espíritu Santo.
8 Increado el Padre, increado el Hijo, increado el Espíritu Santo.
9 El Padre es inmenso, el Hijo es inmenso, el Espíritu Santo es inmenso.
10 El Padre es eterno, el Hijo es eterno, el Espíritu Santo es eterno.
11 Sin embargo, no son tres eternos, sino un Eterno.
12 Como tampoco son tres increados, ni tres inmensos, sino un Increado y un Inmenso.

13 Igualmente, el Padre es todopoderoso, el Hijo es todopoderoso, el Espíritu Santo es todopoderoso.
14 Sin embargo, no son tres todopoderosos, sino un Todopoderoso.
15 Así que el Padre es Dios, el Hijo es Dios, el Espíritu Santo es Dios.
16 Sin embargo, no son tres dioses, sino un solo Dios.
17 Asimismo, el Padre es Señor, el Hijo es Señor, el Espíritu Santo es Señor.
18 Sin embargo, no son tres señores, sino un solo Señor.
19 Porque, así como somos compelidos por la verdad cristiana a confesar a cada una de las tres personas, por sí misma, Dios y Señor: Así nos prohibe la religión cristiana decir que son tres dioses y tres señores.
20 El Padre no fue hecho por nadie, ni creado, ni engrendrado.
21 El Hijo fue por solo el Padre, no hecho ni creado, sino engendrado.
22 El Espíritu Santo es del Padre y del Hijo; ni hecho ni creado, ni engendrado, sino procedente.
23 Así que es un Padre, no tres padres; un Hijo, no tres hijos; un Espíritu Santo, no tres espíritus santos.
24 Y en esta Trinidad ninguno es primero o postrero; ninguno mayor o menor;
25 sino que todas las tres personas son coeternas juntamente y coiguales; Así que en todas las cosas, como queda dicho, debe ser venerada la Trinidad en la unidad, y la unidad en la Trinidad.
26 Quien, pues, quiere ser salvo, debe pensar así de la Trinidad.
27 Además, es necesario para la salvación que se crea también fielmente la encarnación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

28 Esta es, pues, la fe verdadera, que creamos y confesemos que nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios, es Dios y hombre;
29 Dios de la substancia del Padre, engendrado antes de los siglos; y hombre de la substancia de su madre, nacido en el tiempo;
30 Perfecto Dios y perfecto hombre, subsistiendo de alma racional y de carne humana;
31 Igual al Padre según la divinidad, menor que el Padre según la humanidad;
32 Quien, aunque es Dios y hombre, sin embargo no son dos, sino un solo Cristo;
33 Uno, empero, no por la conversión de la divinidad en carne, sino por la asunción de la humanidad en Dios;
34 Absolutamente uno, no por la confusión de la substancia, sino por la unidad de la persona.
35 Porque como el alma racional y la carne es un hombre, así Dios y el hombre es un Cristo;
36 Quien padeció por nuestra salvación; descendió al infierno, al tercer día resucitó de los muertos;
37 Subió al cielo; está sentado a la diestra de Dios Padre Todopoderoso; De donde ha de venir para juzgar a los vivos y a los muertos;
38 En cuya venida todos los hombres han de resucitar con sus cuerpos; y han de dar cuenta de sus propias obras.
39 Los que hicieron bien, irán a la vida eterna; pero los que hicieron mal, al fuego eterno.
40 Esta es la verdadera fe cristiana; que si alguno no la creyere firme y fielmente, no podrá ser salvo.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP

We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.

WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES

Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.

Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.

Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.

DIVINE SERVICE

FIRST SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST—SAY IT OUT LOUD: GOD IS TRIUNE

We believe in the triune God. He is the only true God. The festival of the Holy Trinity is a time to celebrate God revealing himself to us as one God in three persons. The triune God wants his people to teach this mystery in its biblical truth and purity. This festival of the Holy Trinity begins the second half of the Church Year with a proclamation of people being baptized and blessed in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the only true God.

CONFESSION OF SINS

Brothers and sisters, Jesus commanded us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:

Merciful God, we confess that we are enslaved by sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and direct us through your Holy Spirit so that your will may be our joy and that we may always walk in your ways to the glory of your name. Amen.

ABSOLUTION

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in his great mercy has given us his Son, and through him forgives us our sins. God grants to those who believe in Jesus Christ the power to be his sons and daughters and the gift of his Holy Spirit. Everyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. CONFESSION OF FAITH Athanasian Creed

This creed is named for St. Athanasius, a staunch defender of the Christian faith in the fourth century. It was written over a century after the death of Athanasius to combat two errors that undermined key scriptural teachings. One error denied that God’s Son and the Holy Spirit are of one being or Godhead with the Father. The other error denied that Jesus Christ is true God and true man in one person. The Athanasian Creed continues to serve the Christian Church as a standard of the truth. It declares that whoever rejects the doctrine of the Trinity and the doctrine of Christ is without the saving faith.

The creed also briefly speaks of the necessity of good works in the life of the Christian. The good works God produces in us and through us are the natural consequence of the faith hidden in the heart. The creed’s reference to doing good calls to mind Jesus’ words in John 5:28,29 and his declaration to the sheep and the goats on judgment day in Matthew 25:31-46. Good works do not contribute to our salvation. However, good works demonstrate our faith in Christ and testify to others that we are Christians.

1 Whoever wishes to be saved must, above all else, hold to the true Christian faith.
2 Whoever does not keep this faith pure in all points will certainly perish forever.
3 Now this is the true Christian faith:
4 We worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, without mixing the persons or dividing the divine being.

5 For each person—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—is distinct,
6 but the deity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one, equal in glory and coeternal in majesty.
7 What the Father is, so is the Son, and so is the Holy Spirit.
