SERVICE OF WORD AND SACRAMENT
THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD
Jesus was a real human being, and he looked like it when he taught his disciples. But one day atop a high mountain, Jesus gave his disciples a glimpse of his glory as the Son of God. After he came down from the mountain, Jesus went to Jerusalem to suffer and die. It is good for us to view Jesus in glory on the mountain. It prepares us for Lent, and it prepares us for life.
TRANSFIGURATION DIALOGUE
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon us.
When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

God invites us to come into his presence and worship him with humble and penitent hearts. Therefore, let us acknowledge our sinfulness and ask him to forgive us.
Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful, and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
Let us pray.
O God, in the glorious transfiguration of your only-begotten Son, you confirmed the mysteries of the faith by the testimony of Moses and Elijah, and in the voice that came from the bright cloud, you foreshadowed our adoption as your sons. In your mercy, make us co-heirs of glory with Jesus our King, and bring us at last to heaven; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

FIRST READING Exodus 24:9–18
On Mount Sinai, Moses saw the glory of the Lord’s law. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses would see the glory of the Lord’s gospel.
9Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up 10and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky. 11But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank.
12The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.”
13Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. 14He said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you, and anyone involved in a dispute can go to them.”
15When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, 16and the glory of the Lord settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from within the cloud. 17To the Israelites the glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. 18Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

As an eyewitness to the majesty and glory of Jesus, St. Peter testifies to the reliability of the Christian faith.
16For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
19We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. 21For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The transfiguration of our Lord.
1After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
6When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7But Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

EL SERVICIO DE LA PALABRA Y EL SACRAMENTO
LA TRANSFIGURACIÓN DE NUESTRO SEÑOR
Jesús era un ser humano real, y lo parecía al enseñar a sus discípulos. Pero un día, en la cima de una montaña alta, Jesús les dio a sus discípulos un vislumbre de su gloria como Hijo de Dios. Tras bajar de la montaña, Jesús fue a Jerusalén a sufrir y morir. Es bueno para nosotros contemplar a Jesús en gloria en la montaña. Nos prepara para la Cuaresma y para la vida.
DIÁLOGO DE LA TRANSFIGURACIÓN
Dios, en el principio, creó los cielos y la tierra. La tierra era un caos total, las tinieblas cubrían el abismo, y el Espíritu de Dios se movía sobre la superficie de las aguas. Y dijo Dios: «¡Que exista la luz!» Y la luz llegó a existir.
Dios consideró que la luz era buena y la separó de las tinieblas.
La mujer vio que el fruto del árbol era bueno para comer, y que tenía buen aspecto y era deseable para adquirir sabiduría, así que tomó de su fruto y comió. Luego le dio a su esposo, y también él comió.
Mira, las tinieblas cubren la tierra, y una densa oscuridad se cierne sobre los pueblos.
El pueblo que andaba en la oscuridad ha visto una gran luz; sobre los que vivían en densas tinieblas la luz ha resplandecido. Porque nos ha nacido un niño, se nos ha concedido un hijo; la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros, y se le darán estos nombres: Consejero admirable, Dios fuerte, Padre eterno, Príncipe de paz.
»¡Levántate y resplandece, que tu luz ha llegado! ¡La gloria del Señor brilla sobre nosotros!

En el principio ya existía el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios. Él estaba con Dios en el principio. Por medio de él todas las cosas fueron creadas; sin él, nada de lo creado llegó a existir. En él estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de la humanidad.
Esta luz resplandece en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no han podido extinguirla.

PRIMERA LECTURA Éxodo 24:9–18
En el Monte Sinaí, Moisés vio la gloria de la ley del Señor. En el Monte de la Transfiguración, Moisés vería la gloria del evangelio del Señor.
9 Moisés y Aarón, Nadab y Abiú, y los setenta ancianos de Israel subieron 10 y vieron al Dios de Israel. Bajo sus pies había una especie de pavimento de zafiro, tan claro como el cielo mismo. 11 Y a pesar de que estos jefes de los israelitas vieron a Dios, siguieron con vida, pues Dios no alzó su mano contra ellos.
12 El SEÑOR le dijo a Moisés: «Sube a encontrarte conmigo en el monte, y quédate allí. Voy a darte las tablas con la ley y los mandamientos que he escrito para guiarlos en la vida.»

SEGUNDA LECTURA 2 Pedro 1:16–21
Como testigo ocular de la majestad y gloria de Jesús, San Pedro da testimonio de la fiabilidad de la fe cristiana.
16 Cuando les dimos a conocer la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en todo su poder, no estábamos siguiendo sutiles cuentos supersticiosos sino dando testimonio de su grandeza, que vimos con nuestros propios ojos. 17 Él recibió honor y gloria de parte de Dios el Padre, cuando desde la majestuosa gloria se le dirigió aquella voz que dijo: «Éste es mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido con él.» 18 Nosotros mismos oímos esa voz que vino del cielo cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.
19 Esto ha venido a confirmarnos la palabra de los profetas, a la cual ustedes hacen bien en prestar atención, como a una lámpara que brilla en un lugar oscuro, hasta que despunte el día y salga el lucero de la mañana en sus corazones. 20 Ante todo, tengan muy presente que ninguna profecía de la Escritura surge de la interpretación particular de nadie. 21 Porque la profecía no ha tenido su origen en la voluntad humana, sino que los profetas hablaron de parte de Dios, impulsados por el Espíritu Santo.

Seis días después, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo y a Juan, el hermano de Jacobo, y los llevó aparte, a una montaña alta. 2 Allí se transfiguró en presencia de ellos; su rostro resplandeció como el sol, y su ropa se volvió blanca como la luz. 3 En esto, se les aparecieron Moisés y Elías conversando con Jesús.
4 Pedro le dijo a Jesús: —Señor, ¡qué bueno sería que nos quedemos aquí! Si quieres, levantaré tres albergues: uno para ti, otro para Moisés y otro para Elías.
5 Mientras estaba aún hablando, apareció una nube luminosa que los envolvió, de la cual salió una voz que dijo: «Éste es mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido con él. ¡Escúchenlo!»
6 Al oír esto, los discípulos se postraron sobre su rostro, aterrorizados. 7 Pero Jesús se acercó a ellos y los tocó. —Levántense—les dijo—. No tengan miedo. 8 Cuando alzaron la vista, no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús.

Reconocimiento al Personal de Este y Oeste de CSP—Después del servicio tendremos una ceremonia de reconocimiento para agradecer al personal de la escuela CSP por su labor como parte de nuestra misión de llevar el evangelio al lado sur.
Combined Ash Wednesday Service—El miércoles 18 de febrero comienza la Cuaresma. Tendremos nuestro servicio de Miércoles de Ceniza con la Imposición de Cenizas a las 6:00 p. m. Este servicio bilingüe también contará con la participación de los estudiantes del Campus Oeste, quienes cantarán. Antes del servicio, tendremos una comida a las 5:00 pm en el centro ministerial. Si te gustaría ayudar con las comidas para el Miércoles de Ceniza o para nuestros servicios de Cuaresma entre semana, por favor avísa al pastor Dunn.

Noticias de Cristo–San Pedro—La semana pasada, Aimee Hardman aceptó el llamado para enseñar segundo grado en nuestro Campus Este. Andrea Baird también devolvió su llamado y continuará sirviendo como nuestra maestra de séptimo grado en el Campus Oeste. Por favor, oren para que Dios continúe proveyendo obreros para la cosecha.
