DÉCIMO TERCER DOMINGO DESPUÉS DE PENTECOSTÉS—EL HIJO DEL HOMBRE ES DIOS
Jesús preguntó: «¿Quién dicen ustedes que soy yo?». Es la pregunta más importante del mundo, y es una pregunta que todo ser humano debe responder. La respuesta esperada puede ser totalmente errónea. Algunos en tiempos de Jesús pensaban que era Juan el Bautista. Otros creían que era el profeta Elías, quien había resucitado de entre los muertos. Hoy en día, muchas personas creen que Jesús existió. Piensan que Jesús fue un maestro sabio o un modelo de amor. Ambas respuestas son esperadas. Ambas pasan por alto lo esencial.
Jesús es un ser humano real, el Hijo del Hombre. También es Señor y Salvador, el Hijo del Dios viviente. Esta verdad inesperada es el núcleo de la fe salvadora.

CONFESIÓN DE LOS PECADOS

Dios de misericordia, confesamos que estamos esclavizados por el pecado y no podemos liberarnos nosotros mismos. PRIMERA LECTURA Éxodo 34:5–9
Dios proclamó a Moisés cómo es Él. La tarea de la Iglesia es proclamar al mundo quién es Cristo y cómo es Él.
5 El SEÑOR descendió en la nube y se puso junto a Moisés. Luego le dio a conocer su nombre: 6 pasando delante de él, proclamó: —El SEÑOR, el SEÑOR, Dios clemente y compasivo, lento para la ira y grande en amor y fidelidad, 7 que mantiene su amor hasta mil generaciones después, y que perdona la iniquidad, la rebelión y el pecado; pero que no deja sin castigo al culpable, sino que castiga la maldad de los padres en los hijos y en los nietos, hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.
8 En seguida Moisés se inclinó hasta el suelo, y oró al Señor 9 de la siguiente manera: —Señor, si realmente cuento con tu favor, ven y quédate entre nosotros. Reconozco que éste es un pueblo terco, pero perdona nuestra iniquidad y nuestro pecado, y adóptanos como tu herencia.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Romanos 10:5–13
Aquellos que creen que Jesús es tanto Señor como Salvador serán salvos.
5 Así describe Moisés la justicia que se basa en la ley: «Quien practique estas cosas vivirá por ellas.» 6 Pero la justicia que se basa en la fe afirma: «No digas en tu corazón: “¿Quién subirá al cielo?” (es decir, para hacer bajar a Cristo), 7 o “¿Quién bajará al abismo?” » (es decir, para hacer subir a Cristo de entre los muertos). 8 ¿Qué afirma entonces? «La palabra está cerca de ti; la tienes en la boca y en el corazón.» Ésta es la palabra de fe que predicamos: 9 que si confiesas con tu boca que Jesús es el Señor, y crees en tu corazón que Dios lo levantó de entre los muertos, serás salvo. 10 Porque con el corazón se cree para ser justificado, pero con la boca se confiesa para ser salvo. 11 Así dice la Escritura: «Todo el que confíe en él no será jamás defraudado.» 12 No hay diferencia entre judíos y gentiles, pues el mismo Señor es Señor de todos y bendice abundantemente a cuantos lo invocan, 13 porque «todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo».
Ésta es la Palabra de Dios.

Creo en un solo Dios, Padre todopoderoso, creador del cielo y de la tierra, y de todo lo visible e invisible.

INTRODUCTION TO WORSHIP
We offer a service in Spanish with translations in English for the whole family in the Walker’s Square & Walker's Point communities. In our service, we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also assemble to hear God’s holy and powerful word and to celebrate his life-giving sacraments. Through these means, God strengthens our faith and walks us ever closer to our eternal home. The congregation is invited to join in singing the songs and in speaking the parts of the service printed in bold.
WORSHIP INFORMATION & NOTES
Restrooms—There is one restroom located by the entrance of the church. Additional restrooms are also located downstairs.
Children in worship—We encourage all of our children to remain and participate with us in the service. However, if you are in need of a quiet space for your child, we do have a private room available by the entrance of the church.
Offering—If you are a guest with us today, please do not feel obligated to participate.
Member-only communion—We ask only communicant members of St. Peter and others in fellowship with the WELS to participate in communion today. For more information about this practice, please read more at stpeter.link/communion.

DIVINE SERVICE
THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST—THE SON OF MAN IS GOD
Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” It’s the most important question in the world, and it is a question every human being must answer. The expected answer may be dead wrong. Some in Jesus’ day thought he was John the Baptist. Some thought he was the prophet Elijah who had come back from the dead. Today plenty of people believe that Jesus existed. They think that Jesus was a wise teacher or a role model for love. Both answers are expected. Both miss the main point.
Jesus is a real human being, the Son of Man. He is also Lord and Savior, the Son of the living God. This unexpected truth is the core of saving faith.

CONFESSION OF SINS
Brothers and sisters, Jesus commanded us, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself.”
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let us confess our sins against God and against our neighbors:
Merciful God, we confess that we are enslaved by sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, through what we have done and what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us and direct us through your Holy Spirit so that your will may be our joy and that we may always walk in your ways to the glory of your name. Amen.
ABSOLUTION
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in his great mercy has given us his Son, and through him forgives us our sins. God grants to those who believe in Jesus Christ the power to be his sons and daughters and the gift of his Holy Spirit. Everyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. Grant this to all of us, Lord.

CONFESSION OF FAITH Nicene Creed 325 & 381 AD
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
